Your Resolution Revolution

Happy new year! It’s resolution season. Are you making any resolutions this year? Hoping to lose a few pounds? Start an exercise routine? Clear the clutter? What about a resolution for your business?

I’m Cat LeBlanc, and in this video, I want to challenge you to make a resolution revolution – in my first video blog!

I don’t know about you, but I’m not really into traditional resolutions this year, like exercising more or losing weight. It’s not that I don’t need to do those things — I do! — but rather, that’s not where I want to focus my energy.

It turns out that only 8 percent of us who make traditional New Year’s resolutions actually achieve them. Yikes!

But the good news is that people who set goals or resolutions are ten times more likely to achieve them than people who don’t!

So I propose a new kind of resolution this year — a resolution revolution, if you like. I challenge you to step up to your life in a bigger way this year than you ever have before.

How do you do that? It might be about facing a fear. I mean, look at me: I’m video blogging! Being on video used to be a huge fear for me, but I’m facing and embracing that fear to move my business forward.

It might be more about accepting yourself. Pema Chödrön, the Buddhist monk and author, says self-improvement is a myth, because our true selves are already perfect. Maybe instead of resolving to lose 10 pounds you should resolve to be more of your true self instead.

Or maybe it’s about stepping into the role you know you’re meant to play, and playing bigger. Maybe bigger for you is about going after that promotion, wearing red lipstick, or starting a business.

The best part about these kinds of resolutions is that they’re all things you get to do instead of things you have to do — which means you’ll be more excited about pursuing them, and more likely to achieve them!

So, how do you define your new resolution? Start by asking yourself a few questions:

  • How do you want to feel — in your work, your family life, with friends?
  • What can you do to feel that way more often?
  • Where are you playing small in your life?
  • What “big” steps feel a little bit scary right now?
  • What can you do to face that fear?
  • What are you hiding about your true self?
  • What can you do to show up more authentically in your everyday life?

Once you’ve brainstormed some ideas, circle or highlight or draw little hearts around the one that feels the most powerful to you right now.

Then, if you’re feeling really brave — or you want some powerful accountability for your new resolution — let us know your resolution revolution in the comments below this video. I can’t WAIT to read all your amazing ideas!

So this year, instead of setting a resolution of something you SHOULD do, why not revolutionize the whole process and resolve to do something you WANT to do. Something that will let you play bigger in the world, face a fear, or be more your true self.
